Flyscreen Product Description
You may be surprised to know that fly screens bought from Macarthur Home Improvements are cheaper than hardware stores!
You have a choice of colours and mesh size for your screens that are able to:
- allow air to flow through your home (or business)
- keep the insects out
- provide a sense of security
Before you decide –
A) check with your local council and/or builder if you live in a fire-rated BAL- designated area and if so what materials you need to use to meet compliance.
B) Be aware that some areas are known to attract very tiny insects, that could pass through the standard mesh size. If that’s your situation, there is an option for you and it is called “micro mesh” and it is made at 18 x 30 strands per inch. Contact our team to discuss.
Why our Customers Love Flyscreens
ALUMINIUM MESH SCREEN
Aluminium insect screened windows are non-flammable and fire resistant; an option for homes that require BAL approval during construction.
The aluminium insect screen complies with AS3959, BAL-12.5, BAL-19 and BAL-29.
The aluminium mesh still allows good visibility and keeps insects out!
FIBREGLASS MESH SCREEN
Fibreglass Mesh is the “standard”/”base” mesh for your windows. Fibreglass mesh is black in colour, lightweight and the most inexpensive mesh option. This type of mesh is more delicate than available alternatives.
MIDGEE MESH SCREEN
The Midgee Mesh screen has been created to keep out the miniscule insects, think fruit flies and sand flies.
Rural, farming and coastal properties are more prone to tiny insects, smaller than a fly/mosquito.
The Midgee mesh is constructed from durable 0.25mm diameter PVC coated fibreglass strands which are woven closer together than regular fly mesh at 18 x 30 strands per inch.
PET MESH DOOR SCREEN
The Pet Mesh screen door is aka Paw Proof Mesh. The mesh is very durable as it has a high resistance to scratches by dogs/cats.
The mesh is 20 times stronger than standard fibreglass mesh, made with fibreglass weave with PVC coating. and is ideal for high traffic areas with pets and children.
Due to the mesh consistency, it will slightly darken a room.
PET MESH PLUS SCREEN
The Pet Mesh Plus insect screen is similar to Pet Mesh but thicker.
It will darken a room, it’s ideal for areas with children and pets and has a little bit of flexibility in it.
The Pet Mesh Plus will not rust, rot or corrode; it is suitable for bushfire prone areas and compies with AS3959.
STAINLESS STEEL MESH SCREEN
The Stainless Steel insect screen is really good for visibility, airflow, durability and aesthetics.
The mesh consists of marine grade 316 stainless steel, with a PVC coating.
Stainless Steel mesh is the most durable, is non-flammable and fire resistant, suitable for bushfire prone areas requiring BAL compliance.

HEAR FROM OUR SATISFIED CUSTOMERS
Do you live in a BAL-designated area?
Your bushfire hazard level is given a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating. If you live in – or are building in – a fire-rated area, you will need to install with either an aluminium or stainless steel mesh to meet requirements.
Choose you Frame Colour
When created, the flyscreen frame colour is matte-black. Not surprisingly, most people choose the default colour. However, you can custom colour with powder-coating to match your window frames and decor. You can choose any colour from the multitude of colours in the Dulux and Interpon powdercoat colour range.
